Gold Standard Chorus
The Gold Standard Chorus (GSC) is the performing unit of the Charlotte Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society. The GSC is a non-profit corporation that was formed in 1950.
Barbershoppers get their fun in singing -- for each other and for the public. The better we sing, the more we enjoy it. Therefore, we enter official Barbershop Harmony Society competitions to keep improving. Our annual stage production is widely acclaimed for its hilarious presentations, its excellent music and award-winning quartets.
Barbershop Harmony Society
Enriching Lives Through Singing
The Barbershop Harmony Society, legally and historically named the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America, Inc. (SPEBSQSA), is the first of several organizations to promote and preserve barbershop music as an art form. Founded by Owen C. Cash in 1938, the organization quickly grew, promoting barbershop harmony among men of all ages. As of 2007, just under 30,000 men in the United States and Canada are members of this organization whose focus is on a cappella music.
